About Us

Glade Baptist Church has a rich Southern Baptist heritage, proudly founded in 1875 by believers who wanted the best for the Glade Spring area. A great example of service to others was during the church’s infancy. While growing itself, the church was busy helping establish a college, The Southwest Virginia Institute, founded in 1884 by Reverend J. R. Harrison. The college served the higher educational needs of women, until it outgrew the facilities in less than 10 years, and finally moving to Bristol Virginia. Like our founders, today, we to believe everyone is important, everyone.

Service to others, and helping our neighbors continue today, in our current church building that was built in 1978.  Our facilities include a worship sanctuary, Sunday school and teaching rooms, and a two-story family life center with a full open multi-purpose court, stage area, and commercial kitchen.  Our church is vibrant and active in spreading The Good News Gospel, and continuing the tradition of helping our neighbors, even our neighbors across the globe.   We participate in local and overseas missions through the cooperative giving to the Southern Baptist Convention and the Baptist General Association of Virginia.

In short, if you are looking for an active church that will be a great place to grow your family’s Christian faith, and provide each of you opportunities for Christian service, we would be honored by your presence.  As John 1:39 tells us, Jesus said to them “Come, He replied, “and you will see.”  Come and see what God has for you, at Glade Spring Baptist Church.
